If your home is near sprinklers or irrigation overspray, you've probably noticed a haze on your glass that doesn't come off with regular cleaning. The cause is mechanical: minerals from sprinkler and irrigation water bond to the surface of the glass. Soap and water can't lift them.

The only ways to actually remove the deposits are acid treatment or fine abrasives. Both work — and both etch the silica surface of your glass over time if used too often. Eventually you'd see a permanent haze the next owner inherits.

The better answer is regular cleaning before the deposits build up. Four times a year for homes near sprinklers keeps the glass clear enough that the heavier treatments rarely need to come out. When the job calls for it, we rinse with RODI water (reverse osmosis + deionized — fully mineral-free) so we're not leaving fresh spots while removing old ones. For most everyday cleans, a traditional squeegee is still the better tool.
